The Power of Rugby
Rugby is a rough game, but can sometimes teach life lessons. As Jeff Glor (CBS) reports, competing in this sport isn't a problem for some young men and women with no shortage of heart.

Welcome to Warrior Youth Rugby Club. We are always looking for new players. No experience is necessary, we will teach you the game. Our season is from mid January till Late May each year. We are part of the Eastern Rockies Rugby Football Union. Our team is made up of players from many different schools in West Jefferson County. We were established in 2002 as Green Mountain Youth Rugby Club. In 2005 we combined with Bear Creek Rugby Club and took the name Warrior Youth Rugby Club (WYRC). We currently have players from the following schools: Arapahoe, Bear Creek, D'Evelyn, Golden, Green Mountain, Heritage, and Lakewood. We play 10 games and participate in 3 tournaments a season. Practices are on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4PM-6PM at Glennon Heights Elementary School (Alameda and Quail) with games on Wednesday and tournaments on Saturday. Players are expected to make a minimum of one practice per week. To have the best team possible players need to attend all practices. It is hard to learn the game without the commitment to make all practices.
The Colorado Youth Rugby (CYR) league that we participate in has many opportunities to compete. There is an A side and a B side division offered in the league. It takes approximately 25 players to constitute a team. In the past we have carried 20 to 30 players and hope to have 40-50 this season. In the past 2 years the CYR has begun a Freshman league that competes on Mondays in round robin play. This year we are planning on carrying a freshman team. Our goal this season is to carry freshman roster of 15 to 20 players.
Rugby is a lifelong sport. There are sides competing at the College level, Club level, old boy level (over 35 years old), senior old boy level (over 45 years old), 50's, and 55's. As a sport that is international, the opportunity to play abroad happens more often than you would think. The Warrior Rugby Club currently has dozens of young men playing at the College and Club level around the Country.
